Surrey Advertiser 18th April 2008 ‘Rock Choir that Likes Madonna’

By Lauren Margrave

A chorus of religious  singers is the image most people conjure when they picture a choir. But passing by Merrow’s St Johns Centre on a Wednesday evening, it is not the sound of church hymns that can be heard as the Rock Choir rehearse.

In true Sister Act style, although not dressed as nuns, this groups of singers give traditional choirs a run for their money, with their performances of pop, gospel and motown tunes.
The brains behind the contemporary style choir is Caroline Lusher who began her professional music career at the age of 15, secretly playing the piano in nightclubs at the weekend, alongside studying for her classical musical scholarship.

More than 200 singers in the ‘Almighty’ Rock Choir made up of the Farnham, Guildford, and Godalming Rock Choir members will be joined by other choirs and bands from Surrey on Sunday in a bid to raise money for Halow. One of this year’s mayor of Guildford’s charities, Halow is a charity supporting young adults with special needs. Damon Hill is one of the founders. The Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford, will play host to a total of 300 performers with an eclectic mix of pop, gospel, motown, jazz, funk, Latin and show songs and audience members will experience both an audio and visual spectacle.
